Wärtsilä is active in the maritime sector and in the energy market and develops, produces, delivers and installs engines – plus all products related to this – for vessels and for power stations, on the basis of high-value technological expertise. The emphasis is on the complete propulsion power line for vessels – from engineering and development to worldwide service and support. The focus is on the future. This explains the investment in innovation – in a “knowledge centre” for propulsion in Drunen, consulted by parties worldwide.
Many of the products are designed to have a direct environmental benefit. By eliminating or reducing polluting discharges and emissions from the customer’s processes, Wärtsilä ensures that they can continue to operate in sensitive areas around the world. Clients benefit from energy-efficient solutions that are economical and environmentally friendly. That’s why Wärtsilä invests considerably in gas-based applications such as LNG engines and products that satisfy the most recent regulations, e.g. ballast water treatment systems or fuel-saving engines such as the Wärtsilä 31 engine.
At the latest SMM exhibition in Hamburg Wärtsilä is presented with the Lloyd’s Register Quality Assurance Scheme for Machinery. Lloyd’s Register Quality Assurance Schemes provide an alternative to traditional survey techniques utilising quality principles for the certification of machinery, components, materials and hull structures. The product’s quality can thus be accessed through a combination of product and system monitoring and quality assurance principles
The project involved close cooperation between Lloyd’s Register and Wärtsilä and was initiated in mid 2015. The approval relates not only to the manufacturing plant, but extends also to include the core element in the supply chain. The recognition covers the manufacturing of internal combustion engines at the Wärtsilä facilities in Trieste, Italy, being the first company to have qualified for this award.
“This recognition represents an important milestone for Wärtsilä and is a clear endorsement of our policy of continuous improvement. It sends a strong message to our customers and to the market in general, regarding the value adding quality of the Wärtsilä engines,” says Stefan Wiik, Vice President, Engines, Wärtsilä Marine Solutions.
Lloyd’s Register’s Quality Assurance Schemes are designed to provide manufacturers and their clients with confidence in the final product that is at least equivalent to that obtained from traditional survey techniques.
