Kooiman Marine Group has developed a push boat with a LNG duel fuel propulsion system. The push boat is designed to navigate the Rhine with six of the Europe’s type II barges. The newly designed push boat has four Wärtsilä 6L20 Dual Fuel engines plus a DF auxiliary engine. The main engines have a double-walled gas fuel system to ensure a hazardous free engine room arrangement. The four propulsion lines concept with shaft generators combined with batteries to store a surplus of power whilst sailing upstream enable a downstream trip on only two engines using the stored power for ship’s systems.
It is not only the LNG installation that will reduce emissions dramatically, the 4 propulsion line concept with larger overall propeller diameter, tunnel shaped hull and a complete novel design of Retractable Flanking Wings will add another 16% to total ship’s efficiency, that also will reduce emissions on both sides of the chain; fuel production and consumption).
